USATF Georgia mourns the loss of David Gamadanis
We mourn the passing of our fellow official and friend David Gamadanis on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, after being ill for several weeks.
David officiated youth, high school, college, association, and regional meets for many years. To show his dedication to the sport, he would visit his family in North Carolina at Thanksgiving and take his son, and daughter to help work at the famous Foot Locker Regional Championship in Charlotte. He also volunteered and coached at a local high school. Although David was very qualified, he chose not to work national meets. He preferred to stay close to home and officiated and helped in the training and coaching of athletes and the training and mentoring of Georgia Association officials.
David also served on the Officials Committee Equipment Sub-Committee. He helped deliver the official's equipment to meets and helped maintain the equipment for years. Although David could officiate anywhere needed, he was a “throws guy” through and through. He was one of our main implement inspectors for our association. We knew we could always count on David to help deliver the equipment, inspect the implements, and fill in where needed on the throws crews. He was always happy to have others work with him and learn about inspecting implements at the meets. Although he was not a big fan of paperwork, he was an excellent and very knowledgeable implement inspector.
David was quiet, but had a great since of humor and loved talking about track and field and any topic someone would bring up in the conversation. In his career as a dedicated official, he was a National Level official and had received the Official of the Year award, USATF/GA President’s award, USATF Officials Service Award, and USATF/GA Service award.
David will be greatly missed and his legacy will live on in the officials’ he helped “spark” an interest in to become throws officials and implement inspectors too.
As we receive more information about the services and family wishes, we will update the information. To leave comments or share a memory with the family, please visit this website:
